Islamabad : The Senate Standing Committee on Planning and Development on Monday directed the Sindh and Baluchistan governments and concerned federal and provincial ministries to expedite the finalization of feasibility reports for the important projects of Quetta Mass Transit Train Project and K.T. Bandar Project so that the construction work on these two important projects could be started soon.

The Senate Standing Committee on Planning and Development met here under the chairmanship of its Senator Tahir Hussain Mashahidi discussed in details these two projects and detailed briefings were given to the members of the Committee by the officials of these two projects.

The officials while briefing the Committee on the Quetta Mass Transit Train Project informed the Senators that its length will be 48 km and the project will be completed within three years.

They informed the members of the Committee that one way ticket for the Mass Transit Project will be Rs. 70 per person. The Committee was also informed that besides the Train, Bus Transit Project is also under discussion.

The members of the Committee were of the view that the price of the ticket of Rs. 70 per passenger is very high and asked the officials to reduce the price of the ticket for the benefit of the local population. The members of the Committee were informed that after initial consultations, MoU will be signed between Baluchistan Government and Chinese Company for this project.

The Committee was informed that necessary arrangements are being made for the purchase of land, provision of electricity and other important things as early as possible so that the project could be started very soon.

The Senate Committee directed the officials to discuss the project of Quetta Mass Transit Train with Pakistan Railways and submit the report in the committee within in one month.

Regarding KT Bandar project, the Senate Standing Committee on Planning and Development was informed that this project will be completed by 2025. The Committee was informed that by 2025 in all 14 Coal power projects will be established which will produce more than 6000 MW of power. The Committee was informed that initially 1320 MW of power will be produced which will be increased to 6000 MW when the project will be completed by 2025.

A railway track will be constructed from Thar Coal to KT Bandar with all other necessary equipments to ensure that this coal will be utilized to generate electricity. Replying to a question of Senator Karim Ahmad Khawaja, the Committee was informed that feasibility report on KT Bandar project will be presented in the next meeting of the Committee. The Committee also decided to write letter to Ministry of Defence to have coordination with them on the important project of KT Bandar.

The meeting was also attended by Senator Mohsin Leghari, Agha Shahzeb Durani, Karim Ahmad Khawaja, Nawabzada Saifullah Khan Magsi, besides representatives from Sindh and Baluchistan.
