Light rain in Karachi amid power breakdowns

KARACHI: Karachi on Friday received light monsoon shower which turned the weather pleasant but knocked out almost all feeders of the K-Electric, leaving most of the localities without electricity

The light rain started at around 7:00 am and continued intermittently in different areas of Karachi.

Soon after the light rain in the city, K-Electric system collapsed. Tripping of feeders was reported in Defence, Clifton, Burns Road, Sadar, Lines Area, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Korangi, North Karachi, Nazimabad, Federal B. Area, Buffer Zone, Guru Mandir, Lasbela, Jamshed Road, Liaquatabad and North Nazimabad.

The collapse of the KESC system occurred despite the Met department’s forecast of this current wet spell, indicating a lack of resolve to take precautionary measures on the part of the utility’s management.

Moreover, a major transmission line in Jamshoro also tripped, leaving several districts of Sindh without power.

According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) scattered rain with thundershower will continue to occur in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Peshawar, Hazara, Malakand, Mirpurkhas, Karachi, Larkana, Hyderabad, Makran Divisions and Kashmir for next two to three days.

Different parts of the country, including Rawalpindi, Murree, Islamabad, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Gujrat, Sialkot, Chakwal, Malamjabba, Kotli, Jhelum, Mangla, and Gujranwala experienced rain over the past 24 hours.} else {
