SC acquits 6 suspects of murder, gang rape case

Islamabad: The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday has acquitted some 6 suspects allegedly involve in murder and gang rape cases while another appeal filed against death sentence has rejected and converted it into life imprisonment.

A three-member bench of apex court headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa has conducted the hearing of the three cases.

Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, head of the three-member bench of apex court has observed that murder was committed in the darkness of night and there was no eye-witness of this incident adding that there are doubts in this story.

It is worth-mentioning here that the trial court has awarded death sentence to 4 accused and High Court had also upheld the decision of trail court. The apex court, owing to insufficient evidences has declared the null and void of previous verdicts and acquitted them.

The suspects including Mohammad Ismail, Afraz, Khalid Hussain and Shakir Ali were allegedly involved in the assassination of Aziz-ur-Rehman, Shamas-u-Din and Shahid Hussain in January 1998 in Basti Mohammad Pur, a suburb of Multan. The suspects were in prison for the last 19 years.

In gang rape case, the accused Adil Mansoor and Fahad Rahi were allegedly involve in gang rape of two Japani girls in Lahore in 2007. On this the Anti Terrorism Court has awarded them the sentence of 14 years.

The SC has rejected the appeal of Mohammad Raiz of Faisalabad against the verdict of Lahore High Court and converted the death sentence into life imprisonment.
