Peshawar: Special Assistant to Chief Minister (SACM) on Population Welfare Syed Ahmad Hussain Shah on Thursday inaugurated electronic media campaign for promotion of population welfare programme.

Secretary Syed Alamgir Shah and Director General Population Welfare department were also present on the occasion.

Briefing the media, Special Assistant Syed Ahmad Hussain Shah said that as per Census 2017, the population of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is 35.5 million and the population is growing at an annual rate of 2.8%. “If our population continues to grow at this rate, it will reach 40 million by 2021,” he warned.

SACM reiterated that with the current growth rate, population of the province would be doubled over the period of next 25 years.

Unbridled increase in population will also have a negative impact on the development work of the province, he added.

For promoting narrative of ‘Tawazun’ as well as awareness about importance of family planning, Syed Ahmad Hussain Shah said that Population Welfare department made available Rs.100 million for media campaign to create awareness about family planning.

According to details, 330 advertisements have been published in newspapers so far under the campaign. The campaign has produced seven television commercials, six audio spots and seven SMS messages.
