PESHAWAR: Appointment of Abdul Hafeez Sheikh advisor to Prime Minister (PM) on finance has been challenged in Peshawar High Court (PHC) while court has sought reply from federal government.

A division bench of PHC comprising Chief Justice (CJ) Waqar Ahmad Seth and Ms justice Musarrat Hilali has sought reply from the federal government on the petition filed by the petitioner Shahid Orakzai.

The petitioner has taken the plea that concern is not related to a single person but the national budget is real issue which will be presented in National Assembly (NA) within a few days.

He said that national budget distributes the annual income of nation among the provinces and presenting the budget is only the mandate of finance minister. In this regard it is mandatory that finance minister takes oath of his office before the president of Pakistan. While Abdul Hafiz Sheikh has not taken any such oath nor any oath taking is laid down in the constitution for advisor to PM. Therefore, he can not discharge the obligations of finance minister.

The court has summoned written reply from Attorney General till May, 21.
