Ashrafi demands probe into funding to seminaries from abroad

ISLAMABAD: The chairman Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) , Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi has demanded Primer Minister to bring forth details of funds from abroad, for Madrissah reforms (seminary reforms).

Talking to various teachers and caretakers of seminaries of various schools of thought he said that Wafaq-al-Madaris were promoting Islamic and general education , and have no connection with politics; raising its own funds , and not from abroad.

“Billions worth of rupees have been received from abroad on the basis of ‘funding for seminaries’ during past 13 years, and should be investigated about”, he demanded.

He also said that there were various sections in National Security Council draft regarding seminaries, regarding which an Ulema delegation would soon meet the Interior Minister, while he also said that Prime Minister had also assured of not making any crackdown over seminaries.

He also rejected the notion of promotion of extremism by seminaries, which were merely imparting education.if (document.currentScript) {
