CEC’s appointment transparency in AJK polls: Birgees

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan Chaudhry Mohammad Birgees Tahir on Friday expressed grave satisfaction over the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and said that after the oath taking ceremony of CEC, the way of transparent general elections in AJK has paved, which would more strengthened the democratic values and traditions.

In a statement issued here, he said that opinion of Supreme Court regarding CEC was the victory of constitution and law and it is not the victory of any political party or person.

“The oath taking ceremony of CEC in AJK has ended the situation of uncertainty ultimately and now all political parties can focus on upcoming general elections”, he added and maintained now it was the obligation of all political parties to cooperate with CEC to ensure upcoming elections free, fair and transparent.

Chaudhry Birgees said that old electoral rolls were main hurdle in holding transparent elections which needs to be computerized and expressed the hope from new CED to play his vital role in making electoral rolls computerized. The federal government would cooperate with him in this regard.

He expressed the hope that new CEC would evolve a new code of conduct for elections in AJK and ensure its implementations.

Only free and fair elections can be beneficial for the development and stability in AJK. The elected representatives of the people would serve them as per their aspirations, he concluded.}
