LAHORE: An Accountability Court (AC) in Lahore has on Thursday extended Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly Muhammad Hamza Shahbaz Sharif’s judicial remand for 14 days.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader was produced before the court by officials from the Kot Lakhpat Jail after his judicial remand ended on Thursday. The AC directed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor to file reference of the money laundering case. Accountability court judge Amjad Nazeer Chaudhry heard the case.

Strict security measures were taken inside and outside the Judicial Complex to deter any untoward incident.

On the other hand, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif’s counsels submitted an application in the court to grant him exemption from appearance on medical grounds in the Ashiana-e-Iqbal scam and Ramzan Sugar Mills cases.

It has been stated in the application that Shehbaz Sharif cannot appear before the court as he has gone abroad for elder brother Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and his own medical treatment. The court summoned reply from the NAB on Shehbaz’s application after issuing a notice.
