Door to door verification campaign to be launched to correct voters lists

ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken notice of large scale irregularities in voters lists in the country.

Decision has been taken to launch door to door verification campaign to correct all voters lists. Verification campaign will last till March 2022.

Sources said the committee constituted to look into the irregularities in voters lists has presented its report to election commission. Director MIS has been suspended due to irregularities in voters lists and formal inquiry has been launched on this count.

Sources said that all the voters lists are being compiled afresh by election commission on committee recommendations.

In the first phase the number of data collectors display centres has been sought from all the provincial election commissioners. In the second phase training will be imparted to staff for verification campaign. In the third phase door to door verification campaign will take place. Entry of over 11 crore voters will be recorded during the campaign as per voters will. The preliminary lists will be put to display at display centres after data feeding. The voters will be given time for correction, entry and objections.

In the last phase, final lists will be issued after deciding the objections over them.

Newly compiled voters lists will be used in the general election 2023. The existing voters lists will stay till the completion of verification campaign.
