ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday has conducted hearing on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) plea against appointment of Maryam Nawaz as Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) vice president.

During the hearing, Chief Election Commissioner asked about the replies of PML-N and Maryam Nawaz over which, defence lawyer Barrister Zafarullah demanded to provide copies of plea and appointment notification.

The one who challenged the appointment should also have its copy, the PML-N lawyer responded.

Subsequently, ECP directed PTI lawyer to provide the required documents to the defence lawyer and adjourned the hearing till June 25.

Earlier on June 9, PTI had challenged Maryam Nawaz’s appointment as party vice president in ECP.

PTI adopted the stance that Maryam Nawaz was ineligible to hold any political or public office as she was sentenced by the court in corruption reference.

Appointment of ex-PM Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam as party vice president was contradictory to the constitution and law, the plea stated.
