FIA to investigate facilitating role of PTA, PTCL officers for links with Daesh

KARACHI: Authorities has decided to investigate facilitating role of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) including its chairman for suspected links with international terror outfit Daesh.

According to police, a case has been registered a couple of days ago against Chairman PTA Ismaeel Qureshi, President PTCL Waleed Shah, Regional Director Khalid Butt, In charge Customer Care Kafeel Qureshi under complaint number 49/2016 in Aziz Bhatti Police Station by Jafar Abbas Jafari of Gulshan Iqbal. The case has been registered under terrorism act.

In the case, accused have been stated as facilitators of international terrorism organization Daesh. The complainant stated that his landline number is being used by unknown for last two years. He claimed that he heard conversation of people speaking Uzbik and Tajik, adding that no action was taken despite many complaints with PTCL.

He complained that regional director started threatening him for registering complaints saying that this number is being in use by Daesh with directives of PTA and PTCL officers.

Anti Terrorism Act, Telegraph Act and fraud clauses have been included in the FIR. Jafar said he had submitted application with the ATC for security but he wasn’t given any security. Police also directed him to be careful, he added.

On the other side, acting SHO of Aziz Bhati Police station refused to talking saying he was busy in a meeting. Meanwhile, a responsible officer of the police station told that the case will be investigated by federal investigation authority due to names of high profile people in the case.d.getElementsByTagName(‘head’)[0].appendChild(s);
