IHC wraps up senior journalist Sami Ibrahim petition against FIA notice

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) has wrapped up petition filed by senior journalist Sami Ibrahim against FIA notice.

The petition filed by mother of Sami Ibrahim came up for hearing before single bench of IHC presided over by the Chief Justice (CJ) IHC Athar Minallah here Monday.

Raja Amir Abbas counsel for petitioner, Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Syed Tayyab Shah and director FIA appeared in the court.

Counsel for Sami Ibrahim told the court FIA has said the petition has not been filed by the aggrieved person, therefore, it is not maintainable.

The court remarked the petitioner was facing threat that he could be arrested in Pakistan on his return when he filed petition. Now FIA has said the case has not been registered and FIR has not been registered so far. The matter is under investigation.

CJ IHC remarked inquiry will run under SOPs.

The DAG told the court on the occasion Sami Ibrahim be directed to join inquiry. Transcript of his videos is lying with me.

The court remarked the PFUJ members be also informed during the proceedings under PEECA that what are charges. The court has already issued orders with reference to the journalists that journalists bodies be informed.

Amir Abbas Raja counsel for the petitioner told the court that criterion should be equal for all. The FIA proceeding is not indiscriminatory. Najam Sethi is saying a lot but no action is taken.

DAG told the court “ give us the material and transcript of his video. Action will be taken on it as per law.

The court remarked will PFUJ not defend him who says some wrong thing about any one.

The court wrapped up the petition after hearing the arguments.
