It is premature to say anything about release of Dr Aafia: FO

Islamabad: Foreign Office (FO) has said talks have been held with US on Dr Aafia Siddiqui issue but it is pre-mature to say anything about her release.

FO further said Asia Bibi has been released from jail and she is in the custody of government in Pakistan.

“We have talked to US with reference to Dr Aafia Siddiqui. But no decision has been taken so far about her release. Afia Siddiqui issue is an emotional matter which cannot be addressed secretly.

Some headway has been made in this respect, however, saying anything in this regard is pre-mature. Aafia Siddiqui matter was discussed with United States Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Alice Wells during his visit to Islamabad on November 6. US delegation had assured about her release. However her release was not determined”, this was said by FO spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal

He stated that government of Pakistan had been taking up the issue of Aafia Siddiqui persistently with US and Pakistan counsel general in Huston meets regularly Dr Aafia Siddiqui to know about her welfare.

He underlined that Pakistanis are in Guantanamo bay prison at present. Talks are underway with US in connection with release of Saif Ullah Piracha, Majid Khan, Abdul Rabbani, Ammar Al-Baloshi and Ghulam Rabbani.

About Prime Minister Imran Khan visit to China, Dr Faisal said Imran Khan undertook visit of China at the invitation of Chinese PM. These visits have helped strengthen the bilateral ties between Pakistan and China further.

PM Imran Khan had met Chinese President and Premier during his visit and talks were held between the two countries at delegation level. As many as 15 agreements and Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) were also signed.

FO Spokesperson while slating Indian Forces atrocities in Occupied Kashmir said Occupation forces had martyred 19 innocent Kashmiris. British Parliamentary Committee report with reference to Occupied Kashmir is a good omen. He held International Community should play its role to stop Indian aggression in Kashmir.

It is pertinent to mention here that UK Parliamentary Group had confirmed Indian state aggression and gross violations in Held Kashmir. FO spokesperson made it clear about release of Asia Bibi that she is at a safe place in Pakistan.

Contradicting media reports he said media should confirm such reports before publishing them. Responding to a question he said Asia Bibi is a free Pakistani citizen and no restriction can be imposed on the movement of any one being a free citizen. Review petition has been filed against Asia Bibi in Supreme Court (SC). If she can be stopped legally from going abroad then law ministry or interior ministry can tell about it.

Regarding Alice Wells visit to Islamabad he said during high level talks with Alice Wells the matter of boosting bilateral ties between US and Pakistan came under discussion. Responding to a question he said Pakistan has close links with Central Asian countries. Pakistan wants to bolster trade ties with the states of the region. Pakistan wants that the whole region could reap dividends of CPEC.

Regarding release of Mullah Brother he said Pakistan authorities had arrested Mullah Brother during a search operation. However he has been released at the behest of US.
