Karachi: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Chief Engr. Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has said that the 20 million Karachiites are in dire need of circular railway.

In a statement on Thursday, the JI leader welcomed the constitution of a high level committee by chief secretary Sindh for restoration of circular railway project in Karachi.

However, he made it clear that restoration of the project needs much more efforts than forming committees, as a lot of such committees had been formed in past but of no avail, he remembered.

He continued that an accord, in regard with restoration of the project in Karachi, was about to mature with a Japanese firm during the tenure of former City Nazim Nematullah Khan.

Unfortunately, the successive governments became a hindered and did not let the project executed. He expressed his dissatisfaction that even those who claim Karachi keep Karachiites deprive of their due right.

Engr. Naeem said that the city has been facing acute shortage of transportation facilities for a long time. He commented that the prevailing transportation facilities, including Mazda buses and quite insufficient to cater the need of 20 million dwellers of the city. He said that at least 5000 more big buses are required in the city, so as to reduce the miseries of commuters in Karachi at some reasonable extend.
