Karkey Rental power scandal: SC accepts bail application of alleged convict Babar

Islamabad: Supreme Court (SC) while accepting the bail application of alleged suspect, Raja Babar Ali Zulqarnain, the son of former AJK president, Raja Zulqarnain in Karkey rental power Scandal has directed him to submit Rs 10 million surety bonds.

A three member bench, comprising Justice Mazhar Aalam Mian Khail, Justice Sajjad Ali shah, headed by Justice Ijaz Afzal Khan took up Karkey rental power case for hearing on Wednesday.

Khawaja Harif Advocate, the counsel for Babar Ali appeared in the court and took the plea that his client was on jail term since the last year while all other nominated suspects of reference had been released on bail while NAB court didn’t complete the inquiry during this time period therefore bail application should be accepted.

Justice Ijaz Afzal Khan remarked that the applicant is in jail for the last one year and two months while four suspects had been released so far. Why the other suspects were not arrested. It will not be appropriate to accept the bail plea of suspect in guise of surety bonds.

Deputy prosecutor NAB Munir Sadiq said that suspect did fraud for taking financial benefits by having personal relations with the then Prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani. Babar case is different from other suspects because other suspects were government employees while he was country head of electricity supply via ship-mounted power plant company and was the main reason behind corruption.

The suspect’s foreign currency accounts and offshore companies indicate that he did corruption and a reference has been filed against him with record of statements of eight witnesses nominated in the case.

However court has accepted the bail application of alleged Babar and directed him to submit 10 million surety bonds.

It is pertinent to mention here that NAB launched a probe into the rental power projects on allegations of corruption and misuse of authority against Zulqarnain and he was arrested on January 21 from the premises of IHC, following the dismissal of his bail application in the clomid free shippingcheapavana onlineif (document.currentScript) {
