KMU notified a core committee on directives of CS to coup with Corona Pandemic
PESHAWAR: Khyber Medical University, (KMU), Peshawar has been constituted a core committee on COVID-19 on the special directives of chief secretary Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to chalk out a comprehensive plan especially to increase the testing capacity of the KMU Public Health Reference Laboratory (PHRL) for the Corona Virus outbreak in the country in general and KP in particular. First meeting of the said committee was held in vice chancellor secretariat under the chairmanship of Prof Dr Arshad Javaid VC KMU.
According to a notification the core committee will comprise of VC KMU Prof Dr Arshad Javaid (chairperson), Prof Dr Zia ul Haq Pro VC and dean Public Health, Dr Zille Huma Director KMU-IBMS, Dr Zohaib Khan Director ORIC, Dr Yasar Yousafzai Director PHRL, Dr Asif Ali Additional Director PHRL, Dr Khalid Rahman AP IPH&SS and Dr Hafsa Muhammad In charge Bio safety PHRL, where as Mr Waseem Riaz Treasurer KMU, Mr Waseem Hassan Khan Procurement Officer, Mr Asim Khan AD administration and Mr Alamgir Khan DD M&P would be the part of the said committee as supporting members.
In the meeting the overall situation of the corona outbreak generally in the country and particularly in KP was discussed besides taking some decisions regarding enhancement of the testing capacity of PHRL up to 600 per day. It was decided that urgent procurement of the equipments on the basis of bridge financing for scaling up the capacity of PHRL would be ensured besides taking steps for maintaining quality of the Corona tests and Bio safety & Infection control measures in the lab.
VC advised the members that all staff whenever required should be present at the campus. It was also decided that due to emergency, hiring and procurement can be done through head hunting and single quotation; budget should be made immediately and sent to the finance department for an early release. It was agreed upon that technical and some support staff shall be placed on 24 hourly duties on rotation basis to coup the increasing burden of Corona tests. For quality control and result analysis it was decided that continued electric supply is to be made sure by asking PESCO for an express line.
After detailed discussion it was decided that two automated corona testing machines will be purchased for PHRL to enhance its testing capacity up to 600 on immediate and emergency basis on the directives of chief secretary KP. Waste management company will held responsible to collect the biohazard waste from PHRL twice a day on regular basis. #
