Both police officers have challenged the verdict of Rawalpindi Special ATC No.1 and filed appeals in the High Court on Septemebr 7.

They prayed that the decision was taken in haste and their sentences should be declared null and void and they should be acquitted in the case. Both the applicants took the stance that they provided full security to former PM Benazir Bhutto. They said in their application that there was no concrete evidence against them and the statements of witnesses is wholly controversial. Under the law of evidence neither the case’s trial was conducted nor inquiry reports were given due considerations.

Under the decisions five arrested accused were acquitted whereas the petitioners were sentenced 17 years and fine of 1 million rupees each.
