LHC orders removal of encroachments in Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi: Lahore High Court Rawalpindi bench Judge Justice Ibad Ur Rehman Lodhi on Friday directed local administrations in Rawalpindi to immediately remove encroachments on the Garrison city roads.

Justice Ibad Ur Rehman while expressing resentments over excessive encroachments on the city roads said the local managements have failed to facilitate public.

The LHC judge also directed the local administration to take indiscriminate crackdown against encroach-mafia and remove illegal establishments found in Chaklala and Rawalpindi cantonment boards’ limits within a week.

The high court judge while talking to Mayar Rawalpindi Sardar Naseem and cantonment officials remarked you people being holder of public sector offices have failed to perform satisfactory. Justice Ibad further remarked walking in different areas of Rawalpindi has become a great challenge.

Mayar Rawalpindi Sardar Naseem responded that the court that the local administration had taken massive crackdown against encroachers under his supervision. Upon that the court questioned in which areas your anti-encroachment teams conducted operations against encroachments. No operation against encroachments seems in the city. The court remarked that the authorities’ operation only readable in news, the court remarked.

Ibad Ur Rehman further remarked the Municipal Corporation Rawalpindi had failed to perform its responsibilities, adding that the performance of the district administration was also not appreciable.

The Cantt Board action is limited to confiscation of five trucks whereas on the ground situation speaks volume. Regarding encroachments in the limits of Rawalpindi Chaklala Cantonment Board, the judge questioned, “Can you drive a vehicle in Tench Bhatta?” The board officials, present in the court, nodded in negative.

The court ordered the local administration to take solid measures against encroachments and ensure smooth flow of traffic in Tench Bhatta, Chungi No-22, Dhoke Syedan, Dheri Hassanabad, Commercial Market and Saddar city areas.

Muhammad Anwar Advocate informed the court that unnecessary speed-breakers installed on roads in different areas of Rawalpindi are not only create hurdle in smooth flow of traffic but a great sources of pain for the citizens.

The court also directed the local administrations to remove all unnecessary speed breaks from the roads. The court also directed the competent authorities to present report in this regard on October 19.
