Minister links education with progress

LAHORE: Federal Minister for Defense Production Rana Tanveer Hussain has said only those nations are progressing who have made progress in the field of education and the government was taking serious steps to improve education system in Pakistan.

He was addressing the inauguration ceremony of Punjab University bus service to the students of Sharaqpur area outside VC office here on Saturday.

Addressing the ceremony, the minister said that the government had taken several initiatives for the welfare of the youth. Lauding the administration style of PU VC Dr Mujahid Kamran, the minister said that it was good to know that the number of PhD teachers had increased from 210 to 485 and all those institutions made progress that were headed by such personalities. He said that provision of university bus service to the students of Sharaqpur was a longstanding demand and we were thankful to the vice chancellor for resolving the problem.

Dr Mujahid Kamran said that the transport system of PU was far largest than other universities and the incumbent administration was purchasing new buses every year to provide maximum transport facilities to the students. He said that recently, three new buses had also been purchased.

He said that the female students of Sharaqpur had to change two wagons to reach university bus point and the university administration, keeping in view their problems, decided to start bus service to their area in order to facilitate them.
