LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday summoned reply from the federal government to allow Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan for inspection of the election record at NA-122 constituency.

LHC Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial was hearing a petition moved by National Assembly Speaker Ayaz challenging an ECP order on June 18 allowing the public inspection of the election record at NA-122, where Sadiq defeated PTI Chairman Imran Khan in the general elections.

During case proceedings, Ayaz Sadiq told court that the Election Commission cannot allow the returning officer to inspect the election record.

Ahmed Awais, the counsel for Imran Khan, stated that returning officer is working under the ECP.

Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial remarked that judiciary had ordered holding of the polls on Election Commission’s plea, thus, politicians should not drag judiciary in their disputes.

Judiciary was blamed for all the mistakes committed by the presiding officers, he added.

The judge said that Election Commission’s system didn’t work well during the general elections but it is wrong to hold the judiciary responsible.

He further said that now it is time for the ECP to play its administrative role.

Meanwhile, the court summoned federation’s assistance over the rights of returning officers.

The case hearing has been adjourned till April 16.
