Naqeebullah murder case accorded status of high profile case

KARACHI: Naqeebullah Mehsud murder case has been accorded status of high profile case.

The case is pending hearing with Supreme Court (SC) and IG Sindh police has been given the time of 10 days by apex court for arresting the accused Rao Anwar, former SSP Malir.

According to police sources security has been provided to two witnesses of the case under Witness Protection Act and 5 policemen have been deployed for security of eyewitnesses.

Sources said the eyewitnesses have not been provided secret and safe residences and new identity cards. The other security arrangements have not been made so far for the protection of witnesses under witness protection act.;

Funds are not available for implementation of witness protection act. Under this act the eye witnesses have to be taken to court with fool proof security.

Naqeebullah Mehsud, a 27-year-old native of Waziristan was among three others who were accused of being terrorists and killed on the orders of Malir SSP Rao Anwar, in what was later termed a fake encounter.

In initial report of inquiry committee constituted by IG Sindh recommendations were made to suspend Rao Anwar. Later he was removed from his office and his name was placed in ECL.

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar took suo motu notice of the case and during the hearing of the case on February 01 in Supreme Court, 10 days time was given to IG Sindh to arrest Rao Anwar. The intelligence agencies were also directed to provide assistance to AD Khawaja IG Sindh.
