Noor Mukadam murder case is highly tragic incident: SC

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has remarked Noor Mukadam murder case is highly tragic incident and court has sympathies with family members of victim and we are obtaining information to understand facts of the case.

The appeal pleas filed against Islamabad High Court (IHC) decision on the rejection of bail pleas of parents of major accused Zahir Jaffar in Noor Mukadam murder case came up for hearing before a 3-member bench of SC presided over by Justice Umar Ata Bandial.

Khawaja Haris counsel for the petitioner Zakir Jaffer and Asmat Zakir argued during the hearing of the case that murder case stands against the accused Zahir Jaffer. His parents were in Karachi at the time of murder. Forensic reports have not been received so far. The high court order for completing trial of the case in two months will affect the right to transparent trial.

Advocate General (AG) Islamabad told the court all the forensic reports have been received except 6 mobile phones.

Justice Qazi Amin remarked “ Noor Mukadam murder case is highly tragic incident. We have sympathies with the family members of the victim Noor Mukadam. We are obtaining information only to understand the case.

Justice Umar Ata Bandial remarked no mention has been made about Asmat Jaffer mother of the accused Zahir Jaffer in IHC decision. We are only trying to understand the case. The right to transparent trial is must. However delay in wrapping up case gives rise to embarrassment. Just I have come to know a death has occurred in my family and I have to go to Lahore immediately.

The court while adjourning the hearing of the case till October 18 ordered the prosecution to present evidence to the extent of Asmat Zakir mother of the accused on next hearing.
