ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has empowered Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Shahbaz Sharif to hold talks with the power that matter on electoral reforms and vital national issues.

The opposition had made it clear that talks would be held with those who had brought this government, therefore, decision has been taken to hold talks with the powers that matter.

The sources said PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif has also been taken into confidence on this count. Nawaz Sharif had earlier made some demands, however, he had supported to hold talks with the establishment following his persistent telephonic contacts with Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

Sources said PDM is of the view that talks be held with the institutions instead of government because whenever talks is held with the government they talk of pushing the opposition to wall and some time they talk like this that opposition is seeking NRO. Therefore, option for holding talks with the government has been restricted. If government wants to hold talks inside the parliament then Shahbaz Sharif will be focal person. However outside the parliament Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Shahbaz Sharif will go ahead after consultation for forging contacts with the institutions. Nawaz Sharif and PDM leader will be taken into confidence on whatever headway is made.

Opposition has not given name so far for the parliamentary party to be constituted for electoral reforms. Government has made repeated requests in this regard. The main reason for not giving names is opposition mistrust on government and speaker national assembly.
