Policeman martyred, 11 injured in Quetta blast

QUETTA: A policeman was martyred and 11 other people were injured in an explosion on Quetta’s Double Road on Tuesday, according to police and health officials.

As per the details, the explosion took place on Quetta’s Double Road near police vehicle when the law enforcers were on routine patrolling and sitting in their vehicle. The explosive device was planted in a motorcycle.

The law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area, while the injured men were shifted to local hospital for medical assistance.

The explosion appeared to target a nearby police vehicle. Rescue teams immediately rushed to the site and shifted the wounded persons to the Civil Hospital Quetta.

The martyred policeman was identified as Khalil Ahmed, a hospital spokesman said. Four more policemen were among the wounded persons.

Fire that had erupted in four cars in the aftermath of the explosion was doused, rescue officials said, while police added that one rickshaw and five motorcycles were damaged.

Balochistan Home Minister Ziaullah Lango condemned the blast in the strongest of words. He extended his heartfelt sympathies to the relatives of the martyred and injured persons.

The minister directed authorities to ensure best possible treatment of the wounded persons.
