RAWALPINDI: President of Pakistan Society of Agricultural Engineers (PSAE) Sayed Mansoor Ali Rizvi has expressed serious reservations over non-inclusion of agriculture engineers after the government of Punjab and provincial irrigation department announced vacancies to hire staff for Water Resource Commission and Water Services Regulatory Authority.

Sayed Mansoor Ali Rizvi in a statement reminded the departments concerned that recruitments on the advertised vacancies purely related to agriculture engineering because water and agriculture engineering is the only available forum to educate and train manpower for the purpose.

“The main focus of agriculture engineering is to promote, develop and boost the vital agriculture sector of the country. Right from provision of advanced technology, technic and to water ensures provision of water up to the agricultural land is the domain and expertise of agriculture engineering. Keeping in view the above mentioned points in mind, ironically, only civil engineers are given permission to compete on the advertised posts at a time when there is no preference given to soil and water related issues in their (civil engineering) curriculum, ” Rizvi added.

He demanded of Punjab’s chief minister, secretary irrigation and minister for water resources to forthwith cancel the process of hiring on the advertised posts of director general, director policy and research, and assistant directors and allow agriculture and civil engineering aspirants to equally apply for the positions.

“If our stand point cannot be considered then the current process of hiring tends to deal an unprecedented blow to the country’s agriculture sector, which is the backbone of Pakistan. Secondly, there will be injustice with the field of agriculture engineering, ” Rizvi added.
