SC orders Okara police to provide protection to families of laborers killed in Kharan targeted attack

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) during the course of hearing of suo motu notice pertaining to killing of 6 laborers in firing in the area of Kharan Balochistan has ordered Okara police to provide protection to affected families.

A two members bench of SC comprising Justice Umar Ata Bandial and Justice Ijazul Ahsan on Thursday took up for hearing suo motu case of targeted killing of 6 laborers in Kharan.

The affected families said that although the victims were killed in terror acts yet they buried them peacefully. We are being threatened.

Justice Umar Ata Bandial inquired who was threatening them.

The families replied local contractor is threatening them. Court should provide them protection. No compensation has been paid so far to us, they said.

Justice Umar Ata Bandial said “ please be silent. We will get disburse the compensation to you through court.

Counsel for Ufone said family members of the victims will be paid compensation Rs one million each and monthly stipend at the rate of Rs 20000 will also be paid to family members for 3 years.

Justice Umar Ata Bandial inquired “ has Punjab government announced any compensation for affected families.

Additional Advocate General (AAG) Punjab told the court “ we have prepared summary. Punjab government will disburse Rs one million each.

Balochistan government filed details of compensation package for families of victims.

The court ordered that Balochistan government will pay compensation amounting to Rs 1000000 each to families of victims and RS 500000 each to the injured. Balochistan and Punjab government will be bound to submit compensation amount to district sessions judge Okara. District Sessions Judge will disburse compensation among the affected families.

The court while directing Okara police to provide protection to affected families adjourned the hearing of the case till first week of June.
