SC summons Sheikh Rashid in case of construction of private housing societies on railway land

Islamabad: Supreme Court has summoned federal minister for railways Sheikh Rashid in person in case pertaining to construction of private housing societies on land property of Railway.

SC took up the case for hearing on Friday.

During the course of proceeding, railway legal advisor Afshan Ghazanfar informed the court that record of 75 kilometer of railway track that was carpeted from Sehwan to Mandara in 1886 has been filed.

She said 45 kilometer railway track has been sold while a housing society has also been constructed at one place.

CJP remarked, “This land is of state while an objection has been raised from all four provinces that railway land property is being used for other purposes’.”

CJP further observed that, “Housing societies are being constructed on railway land.”

Court while directing to present report of illegal use of railway land within 3 days also sought reply from minister for railways Sheikh Rashid Ahmad.

The court has adjourned the hearing till December 24.
