Traffic gets messy on roads in Rawalpindi as Ramazan arrives

Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Traffic police have failed to resolve congestion issue on the Garrison city roads as most of the roads witnessed gridlocks.

Sources said the issue arises because the recently appointed City Traffic Officer (CTO) has limited himself in distribution of pamphlets, flowers and chocolates while handing over the traffic maintenance responsibility to traffic wardens.

On Monday, the city road witnessed gridlocks as people rushed to the markets for shopping before Ramazan. Long queues were also witnessed outside shopping malls on almost all the roads, including Benazir Bhutto Road, Liaquat Road, Raja Bazaar, Committee Chowk, Rawal Road, Airport Road, Peshawar Road, Bank Road Saddar and Haider Road.

A commuter when tried to draw the attention of a traffic warden, on duty outside Benazir Bhutto Hospital, about the massive traffic jam, he didn’t pay any heed. The commuter then approached the traffic warden near Naz cinema, after spending hours, the traffic warden said due to encroachment outside a private hotel and wrong parking are major causes of traffic jam.

Frustrated citizens while violating the traffic rules remained busy in taking U-turns on one-way roads to get them away from traffic jam.

When another warden was approached, he, while radicalizing the situation, said his responsibility is to ensure smooth traffic flow in Naz cinema area and he cannot exceed his jurisdiction.

When the citizen made another attempt to convince him, the warden said I think you are new in this city and doesn’t know about traffic rules. The warden made him stopped saying something more saying, “We know our responsibly batter”.

The citizens have appealed to ROP Rawalpindi to take notice of the situation and ensure smooth flow of traffic on roads, especially during the Holy month of Ramazan.
