Waqas Anjum murder case: SC commutes death sentence to life imprisonment

Islamabad: Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan has commuted the death penalty of convict Muhammad Yousaf to life imprisonment in murder case.

A three-member bench of SC presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Asif Saeed Khosa took up Waqas Anjum murder case for hearing through a video link.

During the course of hearing, Chief Justice remarked, “Killing was made only for Rs 2,500 and one mobile phone in the matter”, in each case sentence is given upon the basis of evidence. Suspicion is created due to lack of evidences and its benefit goes to the suspect”.

Court further remarked, “Lack of evidence has made the case of prosecutor weak, and post mortem was also conducted 12 hours late”.

Incident happened at Sialkot upon which trial court has awarded death sentence to the suspect that was uphold by the High court but now apex court upon the basis of lack of evidences commuted the death sentence to life imprisonment.
