IHC orders for removing president, chairman NBP from their posts forthwith

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) while declaring Arif Usmani, president National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) and Zubair Soomro, chairman NBP ineligible have ordered to remove them from their posts forthwith.

A single bench of IHC led by Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiani announced the reserved judgment on the petition against January 12, 2019 notification regarding appointment of Arif Usmani president NBP.

The court dismissed both chairman NBP Zubair Soomro and president NBP Usmani from their posts and declared both of them ineligible for the posts. Their appointments were made against the merit.

The court said in the decision president NBP and chairman NBP are not eligible for their posts. Therefore, the two should quit their posts forthwith and go home.

When the decision was announced all the four petitioners including Lutf Qureshi, Tariq Badar and Nasir Janjua had appeared in the court along with their lawyer.

The petitioner had challenged the January 12, 2019 notification regarding appointment of Arif Usmani as president NBP.

The petitioner had taken the plea that appointment of Arif Usmani as president NBP has not been made as per norms of transparency.
