PM Shehbaz says on Sunday, Imran Khan used derogatory words against state institutions, which is a conspiracy against state organs

ISLAMABAD : Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has said the use of inappropriate language against the state institutions and their leadership by former Prime Minister Imran Khan needs to be stopped by enforcing the law and the Constitution.

Taking the floor, he said on Sunday Imran Khan used derogatory words against state institutions, which is a conspiracy against the state organs and that is not acceptable.

The Prime Minister said the last government-led by PTI increased the country’s debt by 85 percent and a fiscal deficit of 5,500 billion rupees. He said the last government has mortgaged the future of coming generations by taking massive loans.

Talking about the much-hyped conspiracy mantra by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Shehbaz Sharif said the National Security Committee did not find a shred of conspiracy type thing.

Prime minister said Imran’s comments were “very dangerous and terrifying”. He said Imran had “directly” likened Pakistan’s institutions to Mir Jafar and Mir Sadiq. “The poison he spewed about the institution yesterday is a conspiracy against it and Pakistan. If this is not stopped through the law and the Constitution then God forbid this country will become a hideous reflection of Syria and Libya where cities present scenes of graveyards today.”

The prime minister claimed that Imran was the “blue-eyed” of the institution and “was fed milk like a child”. “Without fear I want to say that in 75 years, this institution has never supported any government or prime minister like it did Imran Khan.

“It was his misfortune that despite that he learned nothing, did nothing and did not serve the nation. There is no example found of this kind of support and nor will it be found again,” Shehbaz said, adding that if even 20 per cent to 30pc of that support was provided to the PPP or PML-N governments then “we would have had this country [taking] off as a plane flies.”

The prime minister reiterated that if Imran’s comments were not clamped down on then “nothing would be left” and there would be a crisis in the country.

He lambasted the PTI chairman for taking the country in a direction where democracy could be eliminated.

PM Shehbaz Sharif also criticised the PTI government on economic fronts such as arranging oil and gas supplies, maintaining power plants, managing the fiscal deficit and taking loans. He said it had “mortgaged future generations” with the number of loans it had taken.

The prime minister also rubbished Imran’s claims about the Cablegate affair and said Pakistan’s then-ambassador to the US had himself admitted that threatening language was used in the letter but “where was this element of conspiracy conjured from?”

PM Shehbaz said threats were made to Pakistan in the past as well and Pakistan and India regularly issued threats to each other “but is that conspiracy?”

The Prime Minister said that there has been a reduction in load shedding after May. Talking about the previous government he expressed that PTI government did not arranged for oil and gas on time.

Gas was not imported when it was 3 dollars per unit in the world market. Oil mafia overshadows government, he said.

The PM criticized the previous government saying that by not buying the cheapest gas, billions of rupees have been lost to the country. He said that Plants are repaired every year. Incompetent, corrupt government did not care about repairing plants.

He further said that 5.5 billion fiscal deficit is the highest in history. Total loans increased by 85% in Pune four years. The former PTI government took loans but nothing was done in terms of development.

Meanwhile Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has expressed the resolve to defend the state institutions at all costs and nobody will be allowed to malign them.

Speaking on the floor of the House, he said former Prime Minister Imran Khan is using inappropriate language against the armed forces and other constitutional institutions, which is condemnable. He said the armed forces of Pakistan are the guarantors of country’s security, while Imran Khan is trying to create differences among the state institutions. He said Imran Khan has become a security risk.

The Defence Minister said Imran Khan has nothing good on his credit to convince the people to support him. He said the former Prime Minister is making a futile effort to save his politics by using religious and anti-American cards.

Meanwhile the National Assembly on Monday unanimously passed a resolution condemning malicious campaign against the state institutions of National Security.

The resolution, moved by Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Murtaza Javed Abbasi, said national institutions are guarantor of country’s security and sovereignty.

The House also passed another resolution to establish a task force under MNA Dr. Ramesh Kumar about implementation of Supreme Court decisions regarding minorities’ rights.

Meanwhile, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb has said that the general public can lodge their complaints on the toll free number 0800-73672 regarding violation of code and conduct on electronic media.

Responding to a question during Question Hour in the National Assembly, she said Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority has established an effective mechanism to check code of conduct on T.V and Radio broadcast. She said all PEMRA licensees are obliged to comply with the PEMRA laws in letter and spirit. She said a council of complaints has been established at each provincial headquarters to resolve the grievances of the public about any aspect of content being aired on private electronic media. She said the general public can also send complaints to PEMRA regional offices and headquarters.

The Minister said surprise visits are also conducted by the PEMRA field teams to ascertain violations committed by cable T.V operators across the country. She said no license fee is authorized to broadcast any live programme unless there is an effective delaying mechanism put in place in order to ensure effective monitoring and editorial control in conformity with this code.
