PMDA is a black law, we will have to block the way of gagging freedom of expression at every cost: Shahbaz Sharif

LAHORE: Opposition leader in National Assembly (NA) Shahbaz Sharif has said Pakistan Media Development Authority (PDMA) is a black law and will oppose it on every forum.

A consultative meeting of PML-N was held here Wednesday in connection with PDMA under Shahbaz Sharif. In the meeting PML-N decided to block PMDA bill at every forum including parliament.

It was also decided to form joint committee of opposition to stop PMDA black law. The committee will review the legal and other aspects of the bill and propose strategy.

Shahbaz Sharif also informed the party leaders about the meeting with the journalists organizations.

Shahbaz Sharif while addressing the meeting said all legal options will be used to block PMDA way. All the representative organizations of the journalists have rejected the PMDA;

He said PMDA is a black law and we will block it on every forum. The concerned sides have not been consulted in the preparation of so called law.

Opposition leader said the proposals and opinions have also not be solicited from the concerned stake holders in the preparation of law.

He held that government objective is not legislating or improving the matters but is making the media subordinate to the government.

He underlined that journalists organizations opinion is not included in the enactment of this black law. If this black law is approved then expression of freedom will no more remain in the country. We will have to block the way of gagging the expression of freedom as enshrined in the constitution at every cost, he added.
