Portugal bans bosses from texting their employees ‘except office hours’

Islamabad: Portuguese government has banned bosses from texting or contacting their employees other than office hours as per the ‘right to rest’ laws.

According to media reports, initiative is a part of Portuguese government’s long-term planning of creating ‘balance of life and work’ for its citizens.

Per the law, companies consisting of ten or more employees will pay heavy fines if the rule is violated.

New laws also enable crew with children to ‘work from home.’ Unless the child is eight, their parents will be allowed to work from home without informing their offices for an undefined period of time, media reports revealed.

Not only this, the companies will also pay internet and electricity bills of such employees.

Portugal’s Minister for Labor and social security Ana Mendes Godinho, during a conference last week said that ‘tele-work may turn into a game changer’

He also hoped that these steps would attract foreign labor to their country.
