There is no room for lethargic and corrupt officers in his departments: Akbar Ayub Khan

Peshawar: Minister for Local Government, Elections, Human Rights and Parliamentary Affairs Akbar Ayub Khan has warned that there was no room for lethargic and corrupt officers in his departments.

“The reward and punishment policy of the KP government will be strictly implemented whereas all the officials will have to bring about vivid change in their behaviour and public delivery mechanism”, he maintained.

Ayub Khan said that the provincial government would ever never compromise on punctuality of staff and quality of public service delivery.

He was presiding over meeting on improving the performance of municipal bodies especially the Tehsil Municipal Administrations (TMAs) at his office LG Secretariat Peshawar.

It was attended by Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmed, Secretary Local Council Board Saleem Khan, Chief Engineer Rashidullah khan, Deputy Director Information Technology Shakrullah and other concerned officers.

The meeting took stock of the 50 directives of the Minister LG in order to enhance the performance of TMAs and necessary decisions were also taken.

Akbar Ayub Khan said that according to the reward and punishment policy of the provincial government, cash prizes will be given to the five best performing TMAs every year. He directed to table the performance reward policy in the next meeting of the LCB Board wherein the first declared TMA will be given Rs 100,000, second Rs 80,000, third Rs 60,000, fourth Rs 40,000 and fifth Rs 30,000.

Akbar Ayub Khan also directed that in the light of the clear instructions of the Chief Minister, the appointment and transfer of all TMAs personnel should be done through staff placement committee with transparent mechanism.

Similarly, all TMAs develop family parks mandatory in every tehsil. Also impose complete ban on use of polythene bags in their jurisdiction and heavily fine the violators, he added.

“In fact polythene bags are the enemies of public health, environment, agriculture, tourism and economy”, he added.

Akbar Ayub Khan further directed to fill all the vacancies immediately in TMAs, review the drinking water rates of TMAs and WSSC in which the size of domestic and commercial use should be considered.

He underlined the need of giving relief to the poor in this regard. He also directed to also introduce file tracking system in municipal bodies for expeditious disposal of official correspondence and set deadlines for disposal of files.

Similarly, he said, all TMAs should set up online complaint cells on the analogy of district government and ensure prompt resolution of public grievances.

The high ups assured that all the instructions of the Minister would be implemented in letter and spirit.
