8 gunned down in Karachi violence

KARACHI: Eight people including two brothers have been killed in shooting incidents in different areas of the troubled metropolis in less than 24 hours while protestors took to the streets against the killings in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Nipa..

In the latest incident, unknown armed men opened fire on Rashid Minhas Road early morning and killed two brothers. The deceased were the students of a seminary.

Two more men were targeted and killed in Sohrab Goth and Gulshan-e-Hadeed while a body was also found from Baldia Town.

After the killings on Rashid Minhas Road near Centrum Mall, tension gripped the adjoining areas while the traffic was also suspended on the main roads leading to Nipa and Gulshan Chowrangi.

Last night, unknown gunmen opened fire on a juice shop near Maskan Chowrangi in Gulshan Iqbal area. As a result, shop owner Hussain Ali and two workers Abdul Wahid and Nadir Ali were killed on the spot.

Two employees of a nearby super store were also injured in the incident. They were identified as Jawad and Riaz.

Police claimed that the group involved in the attack was targeting Maskan Chowrangi and the adjacent areas, and the shopkeepers were instructed to close their shops at midnight.

On the other hand, residents of the area said there was a sharp increase in the incidents of target killing and police seemed unsuccessful in ensuring their safety.

Another person was killed near Indus Plaza in Sohrab Goth area while a body of a person identified as Munir was found near Bismillah Chowk in Baldia Town.

Meanwhile Seven suspected persons were apprehended when Rangers conducted raids in different areas of Karachi.

According to the sources, Rangers personnel conducted raids in Sohrab Goth and Gulshan-e-Iqbal and rounded up seven suspects.

The held persons were interrogated about the Maskan Chowrangi incident where three persons were gunned down at a juice shop while five others sustained bullets wounds last night.
