AIOU representative bodies repose confidence in Dr Sangi’s leadership

Islamabad: Heads of representative bodies and various Faculties of Allama Iqbal Open University(AIOU) reposed confidence in the leadership of Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Nazir Ahmed Sangi, stating that the University made unprecedented achievements during the last four years, ensuring equal access to quality education.

During a meeting held at the University’s main campus, they passed a unanimous resolution urging the government to grant second four-year tenure to Dr. Sangi so that many ongoing important projects could be completed with the same momentum. Continuation of his services for another tenure from March next will be great benefit providing solid support to the government to achieve its stipulated targets in the educational sector.

The meeting was attended by the President, Officer Welfare Association (OWA), Muhammad Qasim Haider, President, Academic Staff Association (ASA), Prof. Dr. Syed Zafar Ilyas, Mir Mukhtar Hussain Talpur, Ex-President (OWA) and Dr. Ajmal Chaudhry, General Secretary ASA, besides senior officers including Prof. Dr. Ali Asghar Cheshti, Prof. Dr. Rashid A Naeem, Dr. Naveeda Sultana, Dr. Shah Moeuddin, Mian Muhammad Aslam and the University Registrar, Muhammad Bashir Chaudhry.

They said that it was the result of untiring and devoted efforts of Dr. Nazir Sangi that today the University has grown as one of the leading institutions in the Asian countries in promoting skill-based quality education through distance learning system.

The major achievements, they noted include raising students enrolment to 1.4 million, expanding infrastructure network throughout the country particularly in the remote regions, introducing latest technology in the education system, improving students’ services and making the institution self-sufficient in its financial requirements. All the expenditure on the developments was made from the university’s own resources.

They further noted that Dr. Sangi took some far-reaching steps during the last four years to improve the working conditions of the University and welfare of its employees. Almost all employees of the University stand by Dr. Sangi and acknowledge his valuable contribution for developing the AIOU as a strong educational institution.
