AIOU to set-up permanent offices of PTRCs across the country

Islamabad: Allama Iqbal Open University(AIOU) will set-up permanent offices of Part Time Regional Coordinators (PTRCS) across the country which would be equipped with necessary equipment and information for the facilitation of students at their door-steps.

This was announced by the Vice-Chancellor AIOU, Prof. Dr. Nazir Ahmed Sangi while presiding over the Regional Directors’ conference held at the main campus of University.

The Vice-Chancellor directed the Director Regional Services(A&A) and DRS(P&D) to prepare feasibility report at the earliest for setting up these offices. He said that expansion in the regional network targeting the less developed areas with latest IT facilities is our main focus, ensuring equal access to quality education.

Dr. Sangi advised the Regional Directors(RDs) to work more efficiently for publicizing the AIOU programmes and creating awareness about the AIOU system in general public so that target of minimum 15% increase in enrolment in each regional could be achieved.

AIOU, he said has already increased the remuneration of the tutors, he assured that the remuneration of examiner, invigilators and the examination staff will also be enhanced. In this connection, the Vice-Chancellor has directed the Controller of Exams and Treasurer to send a proposal within 30-days.

The Vice-Chancellor advised the RDs to establish their authority with committed performance, devotion and active involvement in the academic and development activities in the regions. They were also advised to improve the work performance by using available manpower and IT facilities in the Regions.

VC, AIOU has directed the Director ICT to prepare training programme of all categories of employees at the earliest so the students services could be improved upto the desired level.

He said that this year, the University will lay more emphasis on improvement of quality and standardization, in order to strengthen the regional network, the RDs are being provided laptops with EVO device. The DRS (A&A), DRS (P&D), Controller of Examinations, Director Admission, Legal Advisor, Treasurer and Audit Officer will hold frequent discussion on Skype over the internet twice a month, in this connection, the RDs have been directed to create their accounts on the Skype and send to the Addl. DRS for coordination.

The Vice-Chancellor apprised the house that with the recent addition of six new regions in the Punjab, the number of regions has reached upto 42. We have set the target to increase this number upto 72 within next three years, he added.
