KARACHI: Chief of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Altaf Hussain, on Wednesday raised questions over the authority of judges who took oath under PCO, and steps taken by them during former President Pervez Musharraf’s era.

In a statement from London, Altaf Hussain threw questions at legal experts and political analysts, and came to the defence of former army chief Pervez Musharraf who is facing high treason charges for abrogating the Constitution and imposing emergency in 2007.

“Under which article of the Constitution the Supreme Court’s PCO judges validated [Musharraf’s] 12 Oct 1999 step, and under which law they allowed a military regime to work. Who authorized the army government to amend the Constitution?” he questioned.

Last week, Hussain claimed that the former military ruler was being targeted because he is ‘Muhajir’.
