Amendment made in Sindh local bodies law to allow un-elected person to make chairman, mayor challenged

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has challenged in Sindh High Court (SHC) the amendment made in Local Bodies law prior to mayor's election.

It has been said in the petition filed by JI that approval has been given under amendment act to make un-elected persons chairman or mayor

According to local bodies law mayor should be elected from elected representatives of people.

The petitioner has said constitution makes structure of federal and provincial governments.

The petitioner has prayed the court to declare illegal May 24 notification which has been issued under the recent amendment.
