App based free-flour distribution to ensure transparency says Chief Secretary

PESHAWAR:Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Imdadullah Bosal on Monday directed concerned authorities to deliver benefits of the provincial government's Ramzan relief package to deserving people.

He gave the instruction while presiding over a high-level meeting on free flour to poor people during Ramzan.

Relevant administrative secretaries, commissioners, deputy commissioners, officials of Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) and Utility Stores Corporation participated in the meeting.

Addressing the meeting, the Chief Secretary said administration of all districts should provide adequate facilities and seating arrangements to those who come to get flour, especially senior citizens and women.

The Chief Secretary said that by using technology in the process of distribution of flour, vulnerable and poor people will be able to get relief packages with ease in a transparent manner.

The meeting was apprised that free flour will be distributed to more than 5.7 million households of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa registered with BISP. In total, more than 36.8 million people will benefit from the relief package, which is 91% of the total population of the province. Under the package, each deserving registered household will one time receive three flour bags of 10 kg. The provincial government requires 247,500 metric tonnes of wheat for the package, for which a subsidy of Rs 19.77 billion will be given. For distribution of flour, more than 7600 sales points will be established, out of which 6000 points will be established by the food department and district administrations while 1600 sales points will be set up by the Utility Stores Corporation.

It was further informed that the Food Department has issued SOPs for the Ramzan package and has set up a 24/7 operational control room in the food directorate. A dashboard will be set up in the Chief Secretary's office for effective monitoring of the scheme. Similarly, trials of distribution of flour through the app have also been successfully conducted in Peshawar. The meeting was told that eligible families who are not registered with BISP can go to the nearest office for registration and become entitled to the relief package within 24 hours.
