Attack on Ch Aslam carried out by suicide bomber: DIG

KARACHI: Head of investigation team of Liyari Express way blast, D.I.G Zafar Abbas Bukhari has said that that initial investigation regarding fatal attack on SP CID Chaudhry Aslam suggests that it was a suicide attack.

On Friday, while talking to media on the spot of incident, D.I.G Zafar Abbas said, “A hand and other body parts were found from the blast site that are being tested to ascertain finger prints and DNA with the help of NADRA.”

DIG Zafar Abbas said, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesperson Shahidullah Shahid had threatened Chuadhry Aslam few days before, but in reply he had expressed his old stance and commitment that he will sacrifice his life for the country.

He further said that very high quality explosive material was used in this blast which was brought in blue canes in a Pick-up vehicle, while no ball bearings or nuts were used in blast.

DIG while telling about arresting of a suspect from the nearby spot of blast told that the arrested person naming Hazarat Bilal was a taxi driver who had stopped there due to mechanical fault in his vehicle.

Replying to a query regarding talks with Taliban after this incident, Zafar Abbas said, “Our country’s politicians have to decide that still negotiations should be held with Taliban or not, but our responsibility is to protect the nation and country.”

He said, if someone thinks that assassination of Chaudhry Aslam has created a huge gap in regard of action against terrorism then he is wrong because hundreds of people are ready to sacrifice their lives for country.

DIG Zafar said that words are not enough to pay tribute to the brave soldier and that his services speak for him. He reiterated that such tragedies cannot mar the spirits of police department and it will continue to operate against the anti-state elements and criminals.

It is pertinent to mention here that senior police officer Chaudhry Aslam, who led the operations against militants and extremists in Karachi for years, was killed on Thursday afternoon when a powerful IED blast destroyed his vehicle on the Lyari Expressway.

His guard and driver were also killed in the attack while 14 others including police officials were wounded.
