Billions of corruption alleged in supply of items to foreign embassies

Islamabad: Investigation agencies have started collecting evidence against corrupt elements who earned billion of rupees on the pretext of supplying goods to their favorite embassies, credible sources said on Monday.

Protocol officer’s DCP while exceeding his authority and power, issued duty free quota to some embassies and made intentional delay in the release of quota to others embassies. The corrupt elements have casted billion of rupees to the national exchequer.

According to the Foreign Office protocol, Pakistan government provides some duty free domestic use items, including liquor, to foreign embassies and for this FO protocol officers issued permission letters every month.

During the current year, seven companies imported domestics use items for Somalia, Palestine, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Kenya , Myanmar, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Maladies, Iraq and Vietnam embassies and foreign office protocol officers issued permission letters to them.

According to the documents, the foreign office issued permission letters to some embassies twice during this year. As per rules and regulations, an embassy is allowed to import 60 liters liquor for ambassador, 30 liter for first secretary, 15 liters for second secretary and for import duty free permit are being issued every month.
