Body parts of Rawalpindi bomber being examined: Police

RAWALPINDI: Police has confirmed that blast in Rawalpindi bazaar was a suicide attack and 3-kg explosive material was used in the suicide blast.

Speaking to media persons here, SP Potohar Haroon Joya said police was investigating into the attack and body parts of the bomber and other evidences were being collected from the blast site.

He said 13 people, among them six army officials and seven civilians, were killed in the attack which left nearly 20 people injured in R.A bazaar, a busy market place in one of the most secure areas of the city.

The SP said that the bomber was on foot when he blew himself up in the crowded bazaar. A part of his leg was collected by investigation officers. The site was not open for media persons.

To a question, he said that Taliban’s claim for the blast was being investigated.

The Bomb Disposal Squad has also prepared an initial report, saying that 3-kg explosive material was used in the suicide blast, adding that the bomber’s suicide vest was filled with ball bearings and nails.
