Islamabad: The Christian community in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad is all set to celebrate Christmas Day on Dec.25 (today), with zeal and fervour. Christians are giving final touches to their programmes and parties to celebrate the day with their loved ones. Sweet sellers make special Christmas cakes with greeting texts and decoration pieces that people gift each other to show their love and care. Shopkeepers have also established stalls of Christmas cards and other related items in front of their shops to attract maximum customers.

Youth are interested in buying Christmas cards and gifts to show their love. Many can be seen composing songs to be sung at functions in connection with the Christmas. Despite alarming inflation, the shopping for Christmas was in full swing as the followers of Christ, wanted the day to be celebrated as a very special day.

Christmas day is an annual commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ celebrated on December 25 as a religious and cultural holiday by billions of people around the world. Christmas, a civil holiday in many of the world’s nations, is celebrated by an increasing number of non-Christians and is an integral part of the holiday season in Pakistan including the Federal Capital.

Muslims also express solidarity with the Christians on the occasion. The main ritual of the Christmas celebration is decoration of Christmas tree at homes and churches to welcome the arrival of Santa Claus also known as Father Christmas. On the X-mass day, special prayers for the safety and security of the country would also be held in the Churches.
