Constitution (Amendment) Bill relating to constitution of South Punjab Province presented in NA

ISLAMABAD: A Constitution (Amendment) Bill was laid before the National Assembly relating to the constitution of South Punjab Province. PML-Q leader and Federal Minister for Housing and Works Chaudhry Tariq Bashir Cheema has opposed the bill.

It was moved by Makhdoom Syed Sami-ul-Hassan Gillani. The House also adopted a motion authorizing the NA Speaker to form a Special Committee comprising of treasury and opposition benches to examine this amendment bill. Special parliamentary committee comprising on the parliamentary leaders will examine the bill.

The bill moved by Makhdoom Syed Sami-ul-Hassan Gillani was approved by the members of the assembly with majority vote during the session.

Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the constitutional promise is being fulfilled, adding that the people of south Punjab will get their right. He said that all the parties should jointly do this work.

Senior Vice President of PML-N and former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that constitutional amendment bill is already present in the NA Standing Committee on Law and Justice, adding that the government is doing this in hurry to take credit. He said that there is need to improve the atmosphere of the house.

PPP leader and former prime minister Raja Parvez Ashraf said that the bill regarding the south Punjab province is present in Senate, adding that if in the presence of bill in standing committees, the government will introduce its own bill it will harm the sanctity of the house.

Meanwhile the National Assembly was informed on Monday that no load shedding is being carried out on 8790 feeders across the country during Sehr and Iftar timing.

Responding to a calling attention notice moved by Ali Nawaz Khan, Minister for Power Omar Ayub Khan told the house that it is the first time in the last ten years that no loadshedding is being carried out during Ramazan.

He said credit for this goes to the PTI government for delivering and bringing efficiency in the electricity system. Omar Ayub said there is backlog of 1.5 million gas connections and we want to address this issue.
