ISLAMABAD: Contempt of Court petition is likely to be filed in Supreme Court (SC) in the matter of non recovery of 35 missing persons who were picked up by army from Malakand detention center and their non production before the court within 7 days as per apex court orders.

Sources told a 3-member bench of SC headed by former Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had issued orders for production of missing persons in the court on December, 11. The apex court had issued directives to Prime Minister (PM) and other authorities in this regard. But no missing person has been produced despite lapse of 7 days.

Amna Masud Janjua, chairperson Defence Human Rights told the media that only 7 persons were produced despite court orders. The remaining missing persons including Yasin Shah have not been produced so far. The court had given time for 7 days and this period has also lapsed.

As the court had issued orders, therefore, it was responsibility of PM, military personnel and other officers to ensure implementation of court’s orders. Even PM has not got implemented court’s orders. Therefore, we have prepared a contempt of court petition and PM can be made respondent, she added. This petition will be filed within a few days, she stated.
