ISLAMABAD: Quaid-i-Azam University’s Vice Chancellor Dr Masoom Yasinzai and Registrar Dr Shafiq-ur-Rehman were Thursday ordered to appear in person before Islamabad High Court on 29th January.

The order was passed by Justice Shaukat Siddiqui while hearing the Contempt Petition filed by Dr Ishtiaq Ahmad, Associate Professor at QAU’s School of Politics and International Relations (SPIR), presenting serving on deputation as Quaid-i-Azam Fellow at Oxford University.

Dr Ishtiaq had petitioned the IHC in September 2013 to preserve his right to seniority, which, in his words, was in danger because of mala fide conduct of the QAU administration in the Petitioner’s appointment as Tenured Associate Professor and his eligibility for Professorship under Tenure Track System.

On 1st October 2013, while taking notice of the Petitioner’s main grievance, Justice Siddiqui had directed the Vice Chancellor “to pass some appropriate and speaking order with regard to the appointment of Petitioner as Tenured Associate Professor within one week on the receipt of instant order and till then the process for the selection of Professor at SPIR may not commence.”

In his Contempt petition, Dr Ishtiaq pointed out that the Vice Chancellor and the Registrar were not complying with the IHC judgment by continuing the process of selection of professor without first ensuing his appointment as Tenured Associate Professor and eligibility for the post of TTS Professor.

The written order in the Contempt Petition (Crl. Org. P. No. 08/2014, subject Dr Ishtiaq Ahmad Vs. Vice Chancellor Dr Masoom Yasinzai, etc.) will be issued on Friday, 10th January 2014.
