ECP, CEC contempt case: LHC Rawalpindi bench Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan suspends ECP’s arrest warrants for Imran, aides

RAWALPINDI: Lahore High Court, Rawalpindi bench on Monday suspended the arrest warrants for former prime minister and Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan, PTI Secretary General Asad Umar and PTI’s Senior Vice-President Fawad Chaudhry in the ECP contempt case.

Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan heard the PTI leaders’ plea against the arrest warrants.

Advocate Faisal Chaudhry appeared before the court on behalf of Imran Khan and Fawad Chaudhry.

During the hearing, the PTI lawyer said that since the Election Commission of Pakistan is not a constitutional court, therefore it could not issue arrest warrants.

While the court remarked that PTI seeks relief from the judiciary but targets them in the media. “Targeting the judiciary in the media is contempt of court. If Fawad Chaudhry targets the courts in the media then contempt of court proceedings will be launched,” warned the court.

Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan remarked that Fawad during an interview with an international channel laid the blame of corruption on the media. He also told the PTI leader’s lawyer that the court was granting him relief right now but to tell his client not to lay all the blame on the courts.

“Enough is enough, the court will no longer show restraint,” remarked Justice Khan

After hearing the arguments, the court suspended the arrest warrants for Imran and his aides in the ECP contempt case; however, directed that the ECP should continue its contempt proceedings against the PTI leaders.
