ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) proposed new dates for holding Local Bodies (LB) elections before the Supreme Court on Wednesday.

During proceedings of the delimitations case, the ECP stated that LB elections in Punjab and Sindh should be delayed as time was required for the printing of ballot papers.

The ECP recommended that LB polls in Sindh should be held on February 23 and in Punjab on March 13. Local Bodies elections in Sindh had been scheduled to take place on January 18 in Sindh and on the 30th of the month in Punjab.

Chief Justice Tasadduq Hussain Jillani remarked that LB polls should not be delayed for an indefinite period. The court also approved appeals against the decisions of the Sindh and Punjab High Courts over delimitations. The hearing of these appeals will take place on January 27.
