ISLAMABAD: The federal government challenged in Supreme Court of Pakistan Zaka Ashraf’s reinstatement as PCB chief, eight days after Islamabad High Court ordered his restoration.

On January 15, a two-member IHC bench heard a appeal and restored Zaka Ashraf as PCB chief by overruling the same court’s previous decision under which he was barred from continuing as Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board.

Ashraf, who was appointed by former president Asif Ali Zardari on 27 October 2011, has been restored to his post after seven months. In June 2013, the IHC stopped him from working as PCB chief on a petition challenging his election as ‘non-transparent’.

Today, the federal government, which had hired Najam Sethi as acting PCB chief, moved the apex court and appointed Asma Jahangir as counsel.
